![]() I had an experience in my childhood that caused me to stop singing. I just decided I could not do it and that was that. As an adult and especially after my child was born, I kept feeling an urge to sing again. Terrified I would only sing in my car when driving and never in front of anyone. I would watch with envy when friends would bust into song and I would witness the joy in their faces. Still I would experience great terror at the thought of singing. A breakthrough for me was when I started listening to music from other cultures and even some obscure American music that had a whole new range of tones. At first these tones sounded dissonant to me and I had a strange reaction in my body. Both attraction and rejection of these tones was happening inside of me. I was curious so I kept exploring music from all cultures and genre’s to see how the different tones felt to me. Years and years passed and I still was not singing in front of people – but I started toning as a part of my meditation practice. I would always start with dissonant and grumbly sounds that my body wanted to make. All of the sounds that I had previously judged as “out of tune” or wrong – I would just make the sounds and slowly I would raise and lower the sound, up and down the octave until I felt something shift inside of me. I have practiced a variation on this for about a year now and I have experienced profound shifts in my life as a result. My ear for music changed. My body’s subtle communications became more clear, and I started hearing more subtle frequencies that I later interpreted as communications from higher dimensions. Below describes the process as I practice it now. I was inspired to clarify this practice when about a few months ago I listened to a talk by Jill Mattson. She described a process very similar to what I was doing - that she called “the music of the spheres”. The practice below is a meld of the two: ![]() First find a painful experience in your life, or a place in your body that is hurting. You can also find a place on the planet that is suffering and follow this same practice using the ‘earthly body’. Find the feeling or sensation in your body and give it a sound that you feel describes it. Even if it is a deep grumble and does not seem very clear…do your best to give it a sound Now make that “grrrrrrrrrrrrrr” sound - or whatever it sounds like for you. Next raise the sound one octave – and make the sound again - “grrrrrrrrrrrrrr” Feel the vibration rise up just a bit from where it started. Next raise the sound another octave - ”grrrrrrrrrrrrrr” - again feel the vibration moving up higher and outside of your body. Raise it another octave…and repeat...keep raising the tone slowly one octave at a time and tone it again. Take your time and breath in between each tone. Once the sound gets higher than your able to tone with your voice, use your imagination to go higher. Continue to raise the tone in your imagination all the way up past the building you are in, up past the earth’s atmosphere and just notice where you are. Once you are above the Earth, look back down on yourself – and just notice how you feel. Find your way all the way up to the center of the milky way galaxy always notice how you feel at each tonal point and then go further with your imagination until you connect with the heart of creator here. I like to imagine connection with the Creator or Great Mother/Father Heart energy. Notice how you feel here in the source energy space. Now take that tone and the loving creator energy associated with it and bring it down one octave at a time with a breath and a tone at each interval. Down from the milky way. Down to our solar system. Then while you are above the Earth’s atmosphere bring this loving energy with you down into the earth. With another tone bring the energy down to the building you are in. And with another tone, bring the loving energy down to your subtle body. Breath and again with another tone bring that loving energy back into your body. Feel free to bring this energy anywhere in your body you need. After you have finished check in with your body again to see how you feel? Did the energy shift for you? Do you feel differently? Repeat this as needed and notice how it affects your body, and your life. If you find this practice helpful please give it a try and let me know how it goes.
